Encaustics

I love working with encaustics. Of all the mediums I have experimented with over the years, encaustic is my favorite. If this is a new one for you, let me explain. Encaustics is an ancient form of art using melted beeswax and pigment to paint. It is naturally archival, which is fantastic. There is just so much you can do with it. Build texture. Add in found objects. Transfer photographs. Make sculptures. Scrape away layers revealing colors underneath. The colors move in such a fascinating way. You mix them and remelt them and let them cool down just to be moved around again. The possibilities are just endless.
